Village

Yak Village is located in the western part of Tsodruk Township, Chentsa County. The people of Yak Village all belong to the Kyanak Tribe. It is considered a semi-nomadic village that mainly relies on wheat farming. Some say the name of the village comes from the name of a commander in King Songtsen Gampo’s army. Others say that the name comes from a group of Rebgong people called the “yak,” who settled in this village and whose descendents now inhabit it. Within the village there are three sub-groups (ཚོ་བ།): the Kharé, Seré, and Böntsang Ma.
