The article reveals that child labor has been increasing in Nepal in the last two decades. It starts with a discussion of labor acts in Nepal and the provisions and statutes made by ILO and UN conventions. The article studies the nature and extent of the child labor prevalent in Nepal. A micro level study and a macro level study was conducted to obtain information on child labor. The article includes a table of estimates of ages of working children, economically active children in Nepal, urban child labor, and the nature the work. The article concludes that 41.7 percent of the total projected child population in Nepal in 1996 were working in various sectors. (Rajeev Ranjan Singh 2006-10-09)
