Abstract: (Show)

The article is based on a study area - Narikot village in the Kathmandu valley reports on research work from the period between 1972 to 1976. The article discusses Gupha basne. Gupha basne is a rite of passage among Brahmans and Chhetris of Nepal that marks the transition of a girl at menarche from a pre-sexual to a sexual being. The study reveals the feature of the Gupha basne rituals that appears curious on first sight: in these rites there is a clear ritual focus on the girl's consanguineal male relatives. It includes 1 leaf of plate. (Rajeev Ranjan Singh 2007-01-16)
