Abstract: (Show)

The article attempts to compile ethnobotanical information on the vegetation of the Palpa area in Nepal. It is based in the field study carried out between January and July, 1984. The article briefly describes the topography and climate of the area. The natural vegetation consists of sub-tropical to temperate types characterized by dominance of Shorea robusta, Schima castanopsis, Pinus roxburghii, Laurels, Rhododendrons, and other mixed broad-leaved deciduous species. The article includes a list of flora found along with their uses. The study indicates that the Magars (60% of the population in study area Palpa) or the rural people of the Palpa area have developed a close acquaintance with the local flora to meet daily needs like medicine, food, fodder, and fertilizer.
