The article traces background information on the Janajati movement and democracy in Nepal. It discusses myths of origin among the Tharu peoples of Nepal and suggests that such myths relate to the Janajati movement and nationalism. It tries to explore how such myths may relate to the emerging state of Nepal and national identities. (Rajeev Ranjan Singh 2007-02-26)
