The article describes the process and characteristics of urbanization in Nepal. It reveals that during the last 50 years, Nepal has been experiencing a considerable rise in urbanization along with the increasing population. In urban systems, rank hierarchy of cities seems to play a significant role. In the context of Nepal, Kathmandu is the only city which has maintained its top position in rank, and Biratnagar and Pokhara have consistently risen in rank since 1991.
