Abstract: (Show)

This is an account of Sikkim as a hidden land (sbas yul) compiled from Tibetan source materials and translated into English. It explains some of the religious history of Sikkim ('bras mo ljongs), including how Padmasambhava blessed the land, and describes several prominent sites, particularly four sacred caves. The sources are not cited in the text, but are listed at the end. The original Tibetan version of this article was published in the Bulletin of Tibetology, 1998, no. 1. (Ben Deitle 2006-02-16)
