Transitive Verbs

Transitive verbs require an object. In order to avoid the linguistically problematic notion of "subject" in Tibetan, verbs may be defined according to their valency, that is, the number of participants they require. Thus transitive verbs can be called "polyvalent verbs," and a distinction may be made between those which require two participants (bivalent verbs) and those which require three (trivalent verbs).
