Account of Lhadar Prayer Flag
The important institutions and family houses in Bhutan have a tall prayer flag hoisted at the entrance of the compound to mark its significance. The pole is often a very tall and slender tree brought from the forests and the cloths has prayers printed on them. Known as lhadar or divine flags, these are considerably taller than other prayer flag poles. The accounts of how the flags are made, who has the right to hoist and what they signify are told by Bhutanese elders.
