Abstract: (Show)

The article is an essay on polyandry, fertility, and change in Limi panchayat with the aim of assessing population, social structure, and strategic behavior. It tries to explain the importance of polyandrous marriage as seen in the Limi panchayat. It presents data revealing little difference in fertility between monogamous marriages and polyandrous marriages. It recommends plans which will suit the increased population of the panchayat. The author argues that one of the fundamental goals of anthropological research in Nepal must be to generate data, explanations, and recommendations which can be used by policy makers to improve the quality of life of locals without causing either long or short term degradation of the environment.
