In this very short letter to the editor, the author quotes a sūtra (scripture) spoken by the Buddha in which he encourages the Kalamas people not to simply believe in something simply because it is a fad or because someone popular is saying it, or because it came from a religious text, but that they should rely on their own invesitgation, experience, and intelligence.
