Abstract:

This article investigates the origins of the Tibetan Buddhist doctrine of dzokchen (rdzogs chen). While both traditional accounts allow for an Indic origin, the article looks at a document from Tun-huang to offer the possiblity of origins that include Chinese Ch'an doctrine.
