In 1641 Zhabdrung built the smaller Tashicho Dzong relocating his administrative centre Dho Ngon (Blue stone) Dzong. The dzong underwent several restoration after facing several time of fire incidences and an earth quake. The last time it was restored was in 1962 when His Majesty the Third King initiated the restoration of Tashichodzong and built with major extensions to the dzong to the current structure. Trashichho dzong houses the Home ministery, throne room, and office of the King of Bhutan. The northern portion of the dzong houses the residence of Je Khenpo and the Central Monk Body. The major offices of the various ministries are located right outside the dzong.
