This article gives a brief sketch of the early scholarly pursuits of Georg Morgenstierne with special attention paid to his interests in and study of Tibetan. Although more well known as a scholar of Iran, Morgenstierne studied Tibetan early in his career, focusing mainly on Sanskrit literature in Tibetan translation. (Ben Deitle 2005-11-01)
