Drama

Although Bhutan does not have a widespread and rich tradition of drama and theatres, there are some dramatic dances and plays performed to convey religious and moral messages and to entertain the people with humour and jokes. These include the drama of Milarepa's conversion of hunter Gyonpo Dorje and play of the Handsome Men and Beautiful Women performed as a mixture of cham dance and drama. In addition to these dance-dramas performed popularly in the festivals across Bhutan, there are also some drama such as Ache Lhamo of Merak-Sakteng which are regional in nature.
