Tannery

In traditional Bhutan, pelts of different animals were used as as clothing accessories. Nice pelts of sheep and yak are used as mattresses and also as back-pads to both keep the body warm and protect regular clothes while carrying heavy loads. Leopard and tiger pelts are used as seat and cushion covers for special thrones and seats. Cow and yak hides are used also to make traditional boots, bags, saddle trappings, ropes and whips. Bhutanese also roast and cook cow and yak hide to make a special dish. Hide is also cooked to make traditional glue used in painting.
