Bone Product

The use of bone is common in most parts of Bhutan. As meat was rare in traditional Bhutan because people did not slaughter animals frequently, Bhutanese often saved dried cow and yak bones, which they would add to vegetables stews to them a meat flavour. Large skulls of animals are sometimes kept after eating the meat and displayed near houses or religious monuments with prayers and mantras written on them. Some animals bones are carved to make ornamental religious costumes and objects. Elephant tusks are commonly used as offerings in temples. Human thigh bone and skulls are also used as intruments for certain rituals.
