Assembly Recitation/Discourse

As Bhutan was a largely oral society in the past, it has a rich heritage of oral discourses and narrations. During important events and public gatherings, village elders often give a formal speech or discourse on issues pertaining to the community or event. These speeches or lectures are rich in proverbs and idioms, and often given in solemn mood. These discourses are sometimes part of a fixed routine but other times delivered extemporaneously according to the situation and need.
