Butter Decoration Making

Butter sculpture is part of making torma ritual objects. Butter is properly mashed in lukewarm water until it is pliable for making different shapes. It is then mixed with different colours. Different colours are then used to create floral designs, motifs, human and deity figures and faces as required by the religious ritual. The butter sculpture are normally discarded wit the torma at the end of ritual except in the case of tormas which are stored for longer duration.
