Woodturning

Woodturning is practised mostly in eastern parts of Bhutan. A treadle technology is used for turning the wheel to cut the wood to different shapes and sizes. Most Bhutanese wooden plates, dishes, cups and containers are made through wood turning. Of particular significance is the production of wooden cups from burl through wood turning. The cups from special burls are treasured as family hierlooms and are highly expensive.
