Block Carving
Wood blocks were carved in the past to print books from the blocks. The text is written on thin paper and then pasted on the wood block. After making the letters appear through the paper, the spaces between the strokes of the letter are carved out and the text embossed in mirror image. This is then used for printing large numbers of the text. Today, wood carving has stopped being necessary technology and only a few people know how to carve wood blocks for printing in Bhutan.
