Stone Carving
It is quite common to find stone carvings in Bhutan. The most common carvings are of Buddhist prayers and mantras on flat stone slabs which are then placed on the side of temples or the religious monuments called mani dangrim. Images of Buddhist dieties are also found carved on stone slabs. However, it is rare to find long stone inscriptions or long texts carved on stone slabs. Prayers carved on stone slabs are also found on the front doors to stop evil spirits. Carving of Buddhist deities and mantras on slate slabs are very common to find even today although the tradition of carving on stone in Bhutan has seriously declined today.
