Hygiene

Traditional Bhutanese have their set of beliefs and practices about hygiene and healthy living. For instance, exposing to rain and dust is often said to lead to cold and flu, exposing to a comet is said to expose to strokes and paralyses and exposuring to cold temperature to stomach aches, etc. Similarly, certain religious behaviours, irrespective of whether they are medically healthy or not, are ascribed with hygienic values. Having a ritual ablution is said to cleanse one of diseases. Likewise, being in the precincts of fresh childbirth and death are considered to be contaminating and unhygienic.
