Manners of Dress

The national dress of Bhutan for men is the gho and for the women is the kira. However, there are other types of dresses worn by the Bhutanese including the robes monks and priests wear and the costumes of ethnic minorities in the remote parts of Bhutan. Irrespective of the kind of dress one wears, Bhutanese people profess proper manners of wearing the clothes. Wearing scantily with too much exposure or wearing too heavily or covering excessively are both eschewed. They have the casual indoor wear and outdoor public clothes and more ornate and expensive festival dresses. In addition to the full gear of regular dresses, people also wear scarves and swords to enter public buildings and monasteries and special boots during festive occasions.
