Dedication

Ngowa is a Buddhist practice of dedicating the merits and virtues ones accummulated after undertaking a wholesome act. The merits are dedicated to all sentient beings in general and a particular beneficiary, such as a deceased relation, so that they may through the merits obtain happiness and enlightenment. In Bhutan, when a person dies, offerings are sent to lamas and temples requesting them to do dedication prayers. There is also a practice of undertaking the dedication in the presence of lama and priests with prostrations. The lamas recite the dedication prayers while the host listens to them attentively and faithfully.
