Zhijé

The Zhijé (zhi byed) tradition originates with the eleventh-century Indian saint Padampa Sanggyé (pha dam pa sangs rgyas), who lived for many years in Tibet teaching Tibetans. These traditions were exceptionally fluid, and tended to be transmitted by wandering lay figures. As such, it did not on the whole develop a monastic base, and consequently vanished as an independent sectarian tradition.
