Great prayer-flag pole

These long wooden poles are frequently in excess of thirty feet and are wrapped with hundreds of strings of individual prayer flags wound around the pole horizontally. One finds them in places such as the Barkor (bar skor) in Lhasa. A darchen differs from a darchok (dar lcog) in that the latter is a long, thin cloth banner that is attached to the top of an upright pole and runs down the pole vertically.
