School Discipline Referrals

School discipline referrals refer to an action taken by a teacher or staff member in response to student misconduct. The teacher and/or staff member “refers” the student to a school administrator, who, if appropriate, identifies and enacts a disciplinary response. Often, a teacher or staff member uses discipline referrals only when the misconduct is serious enough that the teacher or staff member is not able to properly respond or when the teacher or staff member has attempted to enact an appropriate response but has been unsuccessful.
