In the organization of large monasteries that follow the structure of the Three Seats of Gelukpa (dge lugs gdan sa gsum), colleges are divided into regional houses (khang tshan), dormitory-like buildings where monks lived alongside other monks who came from the same geographical region. Regional houses are themselves divided into affiliate houses (mi tshan), also based on geographical regions.
