MonasteryThe Sekhar Gutok Monastery, or the Nine Story Tower, was built by Milarepa (1040-1123), student of the Kagyü tradition Buddhist master and translator Marpa Chökyi Lödrö (ca.1012-1097). The monastery is located in the center of Sé Village of Lhodrak County in the Lhokha region of the Tibet Autonomous Region, close to Bhutan's border. The history of how this ancient monastery was built is well documented in Milarepa’s biography. Inside the monastery is a marble butter lamp cup that was dedicated by Milarepa, as well as statues of Lamas from the Kagyü traditions. In addition, there are many beautiful old frescoes. The assembly hall was expanded by Pawo Tsuklak Trengwa (1504-1566).
