Secular Event

The Bhutanese communities in all regions of Bhutan observe a great number of non-religious folk festivals although they may have a religious element in them. Among such secular festivals are about half a dozen New Year celebrations observed in different parts of the country at different times. Most of them and other agricultural and seasonal festivals falls in the late autumn and winter after the harvest is over and when people have a short break from their agricultural work. Beside the regional festivals, there are numerous pre-Buddhist folk festivals observed in specific village communities which are now in decline.
