Thangka Painting

Painting on smaller canvas is done for portable wall hangings called thangka. Many painters take up the project of painting thangkas from the comfort of their homes and studios rather than doing wall paintings. The thangkas can be stand alone paintings or parts of a larger set. Today, many artists produce thangka paintings as a commercial commodity aimed at the tourist market.
