Wood Painting
Bhutanese architecture makes intensive use of wooden structures both for structural stability and architectural aesthetics. Once the house is finished, the wooden components both inside and outside are painted in different colours and beautified with floral designs and auspicious motifs. The painters use colours and designs which are appropriate for the structure as some colours and designs are reserved for religous buildings. The artists also take the liberty to paint phallic and other interesting symbols. Houses are sometimes repainted after the colours have faded.
