Stewed Dish

Bhutanese meals are composed of a main dish made from a cereal and stewed vegetable or meat dish or dishes with some gravy which accompanies the main dish. The stewed dish is made from a variety of vegetable, meat or a mixture of the two. The main ingredients are chopped and put in a cooking pan with water, oil, salt, onions, chillies and other ingredients and cooked until it is ready. The recipe differs from dish to dish but most stewed tshoem dish would have some gravy when it is done. Some dishes such as fried cheese or scrambled eggs may be prepared without any water. The stewed tshoem dish is often served in a small cup beside the main cereal dish.
