Tea Snack

The Bhutanese have a long tradition of serving tea with snacks. The tea-snacks are made from rice, maize or wheat. The most common tea snack is made from rice by first boiling the rice and then roasting it in a pan. It can also be beaten into flat shapes and used a tea-snack. Another common tea-snack is made from maize, which is first cooked, then roasted and then beaten to create soft and flat corn flakes. Puffed corn is also served as tea-snacks sometimes as are various kinds of cookies and fries made from wheat flour. A common tea-snack in the past was roasted barley flour which is mixed with the tea and consumed.
