Volume

Precise measurement of volumes is done through commonly accepted scales and vessels. The Bhutanese in the past used dre and phuta vessels for measuring the volume of cereals and flour, and weighing scales to measure weight. The villages would have these vessels made generally of the same volume from bamboo and wood or from tin and aluminium. The weighing scale has a metal rod with lines marking sang and round metal weights being held on one side and the thing being measured at the other end. Dairy products are sized using bamboo containers, and alcohol and other forms of liquid also measured through such container. Rough volumes are calculated using other methods such as a cup, palm, basket, hand, lap and bags.
