Fast Ritual
The myungne ritual is a religious practice of austerity which Bhutanese Buddhists take up for purification. The ritual involves the participants to observe about three days of practice when they have to avoid eating and drinking, have to avoid speaking as a symbol of dropping ordinary worldly activities and avoid having any negative thoughts. The practice is observed during holy days in the Buddhist calendar by many devout Buddhists in groups. It is a common religious practice in Bhutan.
