Fire Empowerment

The festival of mewang is known in some Bhutanese villages. Based on the tantric ritual of terrifying nature, big bon fires are created to burn out negativities and evil forces and dancers who hold torches blow up huge flames using highly inflammable wooden dust. Devotees walk though the bon fires or get douced in flames to be purified of negativities and to also chase away all evil forces and obstacles. This type of ritual is observed as an fixed annual festival in some places and as part of exorcism in others.
