New Year

Due to its geographical topography, Bhutan has a rich diversity of cultures which can be inferred from the many traditions of observing new years. In western Bhutan, the people of Haa and Paro observe Lomba new year. Karm Nyadru is observed in some parts of Paro. In most parts of Bhutan, Nyilog is celebrated as a beginning of new season and in eastern Bhutan, the first day of the 12th Bhutanese month is celebrated as agricultural new year. Similarly, the Bhutanese observe new year on the first day of first Bhutanese month. There are also other new year celebrations in southern Bhutan and remote pockets of Bhutan.
